A Research on the effect of a Reality-based Group Art Therapy on Anxiety, Depression and Internal-External control of Alcoholics¡¯ Spouses

Abstract
This study was conducted for the purpose of identifying the effect of group art therapy program based upon the reality therapy on anxiety, depression and internal-external of control of alcoholics¡¯ spouses. The subjects of this study were 18 spouses of alcoholics at H Therapeutic Community in A City, G-do in Korea. We assigned 9 for the experimental group and 9 for the control group randomly. The Group art Therapy program based upon the reality therapy was applied to the participants of experimental group once a week, so a total of 10 sessions, and 120 minutes per session. To verify the effectiveness of this program, pre-examination and post-examination was tested and ANCOVA was conducted to investigate differences betweens groups. The results obtained from this study are as follows. First, after application of the group art therapy program based upon the reality therapy, the experimental group showed a significant drop in the score of anxiety as compared with control group and the effectiveness stood up afterward. Second, after the group art therapy program based upon the reality therapy, the experimental group received program showed a significantly lower depression than the control group. And the effectiveness stood up afterward. Third, this program was statistically significant in enhancing internal-external control in the experimental group and the effectiveness stood up later.
